About Me

ABOUT ME

Hi!  Thank you so much for visiting my site, Fit to the Finish!  My name is Diane, and fourteenyears ago I weighed over 300 pounds.  I was obese for over ten years and I want you to know that the plan I developed worked for me, and has worked for many people over the years.

I developed a weight loss class that I have taught numerous times over the past thirteen years.  I realized that I can’t teach classes everywhere, so I wanted to start a web community that would help people achieve their fitness and health goals.

I want to help you lose the amount of weight you need to lose.  It doesn’t matter if you have ten, twenty, thirty or fifty pounds to lose.  Weight loss is possible and it can be done in a way that maintains and enhances your health.  Weight loss, when done correctly, will improve your emotional health and will affect every area of your life in a positive manner.  I am sold on weight loss.  I am not, however, a doctor or a nutritionist.  I would encourage you to speak with your doctor before you start any type of weight loss plan.  I’m just a regular person who actually lost a lot of weight and maintained the loss for a long time.  Aside from being married to my best friend and having seven great children, losing 150 pounds is the achievement of which I am the most proud!

So, how did I get to be so obese?  How did I go from being a regular sized teen-ager, a slightly overweight newlywed to a 300 pound, morbidly obese woman?  It really goes back to my days as a child, when I would hide sweets in my closet for fear of being caught with forbidden goodies.  It also goes back to the times as an adult, when against all I knew to be healthy, I would eat whole bags or oreos or peanut M&M’s and not tell John.  The weight came on slowly, and then once I got pregnant with my first daughter, Rachel, it just piled on.

POUNDS PILED ON:

I started out the pregnancy at 195 pounds, about 35 pounds more than I weighed when I married three years before.  During that pregnancy I gained over 75 pounds and impressed even the doctor.  I remember during one appointment I had gained an astonishing 16 pounds in just four weeks.  Unfortunately for me the unprecedented weight gain continued throughout the remainder of the pregnancy.  So after Rachel was born I lost a bit of weight, but it didn’t seem to melt off like it had for my friends.  And then with two pregnancies over the next six years, the weight just kept creeping up, until finally after the birth of my third child, Mark, I weighed a bit over 300 pounds.

It wasn’t a good feeling to stand on the doctor’s scale for a routine visit and watch the nurse move the weight on the scale over from 200, to 250, to 300.  I was just so embarrassed, and I knew then I had to do something.  Over the years I had tried many different programs but I hadn’t had the wherewithal to stick with any of them for very long.  You see, when you have over 100 pounds to lose, just losing 10 or 15 pounds doesn’t make much of a difference.  I had lost that same 10 or 15 pounds many, many times over the years, but very quickly it would reappear and bring five or ten of its friends with it!

FEAR OF FAILURE KICKED IN:

I had failed so many times that I had become almost afraid to try again.  But this time, my fear of failure wasn’t as strong as my fear of gaining more weight.  It had been so easy to tip the scale at 300 pounds, I just knew if I didn’t so something right then, I would be one of these people that were home bound due to their weight.

But on that spring day, I knew I had to start.  Like so many of us, I already knew what to do.  I had been to enough Weight Watchers meetings, read enough articles, and watched enough television shows to be well informed on weight loss strategies.  So that day I resolved that I would figure out a plan that would work for me.  I used all the different things I had read and knew, and developed Fit to the Finish.  This website is to share that three point plan with you, and give you encouragement that it can be done!

I DID IT:

Once I determined in my heart that I could lose weight, I began following the plan I call Fit to the Finish.  Each day I would watch my portion sizes, eat only food that had less than 30% of their calories from fat, and exercise Over time I began to see a difference in my body and in my attitude.

Along the way I went from a size 28 to a size 6.  It wasn’t always easy, and I wasn’t always in a good mood about trying to lose weight, but it was always worthwhile.  My husband and children were very supportive about my efforts, and John even stopped bringing me home treats from the office.  My friends couldn’t believe the difference, and it was fun to have people I had known for years not recognize me.  I truly changed my appearance, and in a lot of ways changed my outlook on life.  For so long I had been tired and worn out, that to feel alive and energetic again was truly a blessing.

I hope that you will give Fit to the Finish a try.  I hope that you will have the success I have and fufill your goals like many others have.  I hope that as this site changes and grows it will be a blessing to all who visit.  Diane
