I am loving the fact that as I browse around blogs, I am not the only one who ran before the feast on Thanksgiving Day! SO many of us weight loss bloggers did it and it makes me proud to join your ranks this year! COngrats on conquering the hills! Why do race organizers build in hills at the end??

TIPS FOR THE PERFECT TURKEY
(Just in case you decide you'll cook another one next year):

1) Buy a Butterball Bird (don't waste your time on an off-brand)
2) Buy a box of Reynolds poultry bags (sized to fit your bird; we got LARGE)
3) Prepare Bird: Slather butter all over it- inside and out; sprinkle your favorite spices - thyme, tarragon, ground black pepper, parsley; add fresh herbs - basil, sage and rosemary; insert turkey button in thickest part of bird; shove bird into bag and tie with the supplied lock-tie; place on roasting rack in roasting pan.) Note: Don't stuff the bird; you can do the stuffing separately.
4) Place in 325º oven until done. This will vary by poundage, of course, but just to give you an idea, our 23 pound turkey went in at 9 AM and was DONE at 1 PM. I had even turned it down to 300º in the middle, fearing it would be done too fast. Trust me, this bad boy will be done quicker than you can believe, so be prepared. Oh, I rotate the pan a couple of times, just so it will brown evenly.
5) Leave in sealed bag until ready to carve and serve. You will not believe how tender and juicy your bird will be.
6) Have hubby do items 2-5 for you <-- This step is critical to success.
7) Enjoy!

Hi Diane,
That's an awesome run!! Especially considering you stopped to help someone along the way (GREAT JOB!!). I ran in a 5K turkey trot too - I love the saying they use ("Like a Thanksgiving Day Parade, Only Faster"). There were 1500 people in the 10K and 2500 people in the 5K. I ran it with my 14 year old son and 12 year old daughter. My wife and 10 year old son volunteered at the race. And here in Wisconsin...it was COLD - about 35 degrees and windy! The car felt really good once we finished!!

Congratulations on your 5k! You did great, especially with stopping to help the lady that fell. I am impressed with your time! I find it kind of funny that some people feel the need to get all made up every time they leave the house - especially a race. It is just going to come off with sweat! It sounds like you had a lovely day. I support you in buying a turkey next year...:-)

Congrats on the 5k Diane!!!! That's a stellar time considering you stopped and speed walked up the hill, I bet you were running fast! I think race directors just love to be mean and throw in giant hills to torture us. The same thing has happened to me a few times now!

I think you should just roast a couple chickens and trick the family into thinking their small turkeys next time ;)
