Yesterday on my Fit to the Finish Facebook page I updated my status with this: “So glad it’s Friday! We are in for some major rain this weekend. It might be wrong but I hate rain.”
I really hated last night, because in the middle of the night, we were awakened by our weather radio screaming at us. If you live in a tornado prone area I hope you have one! We all woke up and checked the radar. Sure enough, we were under a Tornado Warning. The weather channel had been called for the potential of strong storms but we hoped they were wrong.
Fortunately, there was no tornado. Here’s where we spent quite a bit of time last night. It’s a storm shelter and although it’s not pretty we are glad we have it.

This morning, after about 2 hours of sleep I woke up to our yard and new garden looking like this.

We are under a high risk for tornadoes and severe storms today as are many other areas. So today we are trying to stay safe, stay home, and praying the weather calms down.
I hope your Saturday is sunny and free of storms! Diane

Sorry to hear about your whacky weather. Looks like overall, you are prepared for just about anything. Bluer skies are on the horizon…

Looks like your storm shelter is ready to go if you need it again. They don’t have to be pretty! I hope you avoid any tornados in your area!
Keep safe! And if you want to laugh about tornadoes, I will share my first introduction to them. Over 20 years ago I moved from Boston to Kansas. The day we arrived, the sirens went off around dinner time. My mother and I had no idea what to think or what to do so our first instinct was to go outside and look around. We didn’t see any panicked neighbors so figured we’d just go about life as usual! Silly. As an Easterner, I tend to be a bit lax about my response, still, but my husband has taught be to be a bit more concerned and we have spent some time in the basement waiting out the storm.
I love that you have the book “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” in your storm room! COmic relief in a stressful situation!
Glad to hear you are safe!

Diane, am I pleased to read you are safe – just your poor vegetable garden flooded..
What a scary thing to happen to you…
Thanks for letting us know you are safe and sound…
I’m happy to hear you and your family are safe. I can’t imagine how it must be like living in a tornedo area, I’ve never seen one as we don’t have them.
I’m sorry for your garden, I hope some can be saved.

I’m sorry about your sleep and more lastingly for your garden. Hopefully some of it can be saved.
Doesn’t look like very much room for your whole family. I hope you get some sleep tonight.

It’s definitely close! We can fit a seat for everyone so at least no one has to stand up or sit on the floor. Thankfully we don’t have to be in there for very long periods of time!
Oh no! I’m glad you made it through to post about it! We’re in Oklahoma in tornado alley and we don’t have a shelter! Kinda scary! *knock on wood* we’re safely making our way through tornado season unscathed!

I’m glad you have the shelter. I hope the garden isn’t completely trashed– did you have much coming up yet?

Diane,
The sirens were going off in our part of Tornado Alley as well.
I remember how my grandmother used to want everything off and every one off the phone during storms.
And after the storm? The weather is lovely and mild.
It looks like you’re having some early success with your garden.

Wow … I’ve never known anyone who actually has a storm shelter. Good that you do!
It’s very rare we get tornadoes up here in Windsor but they aren’t unheard of either.
We had storms last night and early this morning but it’s calmed down for the most part. Still overcast.
Stay safe and dry, Diane!
Here’s some sunshine … ☼

I hate tornado season too. So far we have had one warning this spring. A couple of years ago, we were in the basement about every other night. That’s the year that Parkersburg, IA got hit, if you heard about that. It’s not far from where I live. So hope everything is ok!

I can just imagine how awful it must be to be suddenly awakened from a nice sound sleep by a SCREAMING weather alert! How do you get back to sleep after that adrenaline rush!
Glad everything turned out safe!
Mia – you don’t get back to sleep!! Last night was a repeat of Friday. Now the sun is shining – thank goodness.
Glad you are safe- here in Chicagoland we get a lot of warnings but few touch downs. The sirens go off frequently- so much so that many people kind of ignore them

I cannot imagine living in a tornado alley.. I’ve been askeered of them since the first time I saw The Wizard of Oz when I was a kid. Tornados & scary witches went hand in hand for me.
Glad you are safe!!!
I hope all is well Diane, and that tonight’s storm doesn’t do what they are calling for.

It’s been a crazy 24 hours, hasn’t it? And tonight’s supposed to be more of the same.
I think we should have bought crop insurance.

We had the exact same weather where I live, so I am guessing that maybe we live in the same area. We had tornado warnings at 3 am too, and then off and on all day with lots of flooding. We have another day of two to go yet also. Our yard and neighborhood was a lake at one point; I am ready for this to dry out!
Oh no! Your pretty garden! I hope you guys make it safely through the storm – I’ll be thinking of you. We woke up to a big rain storm early this morning, but we don’t get tornados here…

i hope the weather breaks and you guys are able to enjoy the rest of your weekend.
oh no!! Stay safe and I’ll be praying for you.
Crazy! I have never had to do this as we just get crazy snow weather! I hope your crop survives and you get some shut eye today…stay safe!

I hope you didn’t end up having a tornado at all. Living in “Tornado Alley” now has been new for us, but I still don’t like the storms. They are scary. I’m glad you have a nice shelter to hang out in. We’d be in our walk-in closet.
Take care!

Diane, we just saw on our evening news the flooding in Tennessee – I hope that you are all okay and safe! Hang in there, I’ll be keeping you and your family in my thoughts.

Our house and yard were fine. The yard is super soggy but no standing water. Other parts of town weren’t so fortunate and people had to be evacuated from their homes. Very scary – thanks for asking.
You’re in Tennessee? I don’t think I ever looked into where you were. Don’t think I’ve ever thought on Tenessee to be prone to tornados….learning a lot today.
Glad you’re all safe and sound!
