Fun, Busy Weekend

I wanted to share a few pictures of our Easter weekend. Easter (and every other holiday) used to be just one more chance for me to “pre-stock up on candy,” eat the early stock and replenish as the holiday got closer. Although we do pre-buy when the kids favorites go on sale, I generally stay away from the candy.

We started the weekend with all the kids, from oldest to youngest coloring eggs. We did 42 eggs in about 12 minutes. I guess it’s really fast when you’ve got seven kids plus one husband coloring eggs. I took pictures!

We enjoyed going to church, and one of the kids took this picture of John and I.

Later that day, John and I hid eggs and all the kids plus a friend hunted for eggs in the backyard. In case you were wondering – we do put a little candy piece in the eggs, but I monitor how much the little children eat so they don’t get a sugar/chocolate/calorie overload!

We finished the night with a turkey dinner. Instead of stuffing, which no one loves, I just made baked potatoes, broccoli and yeast rolls. All in all, a blessed Easter weekend.

Family, friends and faith are important to me, and this weekend was an opportunity to roll all together into one. I’ve been so grateful to be able to focus on the reasons for holidays and not just about how many pieces of candy I can eat, or how much cake I could sneak without anyone noticing!

Are holidays a challenge for you – or have you just moved past the food?  Diane

  1. Beautiful photos. Yes, they are still a challenge for me. As is all social eating. And I have tons of it coming in May.

Enjoyed your photos. We had no food issues this weekend. No tug of war over my food needs vs anyone else’s. My youngest is 22 and bought her own candy home from college this weekend and it did not bother me to have it in the house. We had a home baked ham for dinner with great veggies and salad. I had a sugar free lemon pudding for dessert. There was no drama this weekend and we all had a relaxing day. We attended our church for Saturday evening vigil and that gave me time to do an hour treadmill on Sunday morning. It was a Happy Day.

  4. Diane, thank you so much for sharing your holiday with us! I LOVE the pics of the fun!!!! What a beautiful family & the pic of you & John is great!

I can handle holidays & other events now but I have had practice for years. It was hard to learn how to handle the holidays & events but with time, it is just life!

What a beautiful family you are! This was our first Easter where we had more fruits and veggies than cheesy potaotes, quiche, casseroles and the like. We celebrate Easter for seven weeks so we decided we didn’t need to stuff all of our favorites into one day. I felt really good about it and the fruit was yummy. We also had a cheesecake sampler instead of a huge Costco cheesecake. It was our first “better lifestyle” holiday so I know it can be done. That is very exciting.

  6. Beautiful family photos! Love the easter baskets – so cute! Holidays ARE a bit of a challenge, but it was better this year since I hosted. :)

What a beautiful family! That made me miss mine. :)

We haven’t celebrated Easter for a long time since everyone moved way. I do celebrate the Lord’s death and resurrection on every first day of the week at Church.

I had no food struggles, but wasn’t really in a position to struggle.

These days I too now focus on the family time and how to enjoy that instead of how much candy, cake or food I am able to eat. It feels so free to not think about food the whole time.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the loving mothers in the World! Tomorrow is Mothering Sunday and I know that eventhough it is celebrated on a different date depending on where you are located, I just wanted to greet all mothers on this day!
