Cake Everywhere and a Request

I hope you all had a great weekend! We are finishing up a solid month of birthdays, and I’d like to share the cakes and children with you!

But first, I have a little request. Shape magazine is recognizing 20 weight-loss bloggers, and has me on their list! They are having a fun contest and asking people to vote for their favorites. If you don’t mind, here’s the link to vote for me! There is no registration required – just vote and go. They also have categories for best fitness blogger, and our beloved MizFit is on that list!

Believe it or not, all of our nine birthdays fall between August and February. Mine leads off the pack and my sixth child finishes up the birthday celebrations.

Three of the kids birthdays were last month, and I made three fun cakes.

My oldest child turned 21. I know, I probably had her when I was about 12 or something. :) She just wanted my “famous” lemon cake with cream cheese frosting.

My fourth child turned 11. He is a huge Chronicles of Narnia fan, so I made him an appropriate cake. In case you aren’t a fan, that’s supposed to be inside the wardrobe looking into Narnia.

My seventh child turned four. He loves the “Cars” movies, so I fashioned a Lightning McQueen out of rice crispies, and made a chocolate cake on the bottom. He thought it was fabulous, and loved opening all his presents.

Among a lot of other benefits to having a large family is that when I make a cake, it doesn’t last for long. Particularly if we have a few extra people over to celebrate the event. The downside is that the cake goes fast! Just kidding.

In my overweight days, any leftover cake didn’t stick around for long either, because I would continually slice off sliver after sliver until the cake was gone. I’m glad I can resist that temptation these days, but still enjoy a piece of cake without guilt.

Thanks for voting for me if you choose, and thanks for letting me share our birthday month with you!!  Diane

I have a friend with a family of 7 where all the birthdays fall between the last week of February and the first week of April (her mother used to call her in June and ask if anything ‘was new’. . .).

    Congrats on your magazine article.

I agree, in my obese days that was also the case with me. These days I can say “no”.

    Diane,

Hi, I voted for you because I find your blog so inspiring.

That’s great about your kids. Your 21 year old looks like she’s not a day over 16 (don’t tell HER though–she’ll appreciate looking young later on.) She will be “carded” for over a decade I’m sure…

So I’m sure mom’s youthfulness has rubbed off.

Many blessings to you and your family.

Just voted…. a very nice spread in Shape. Congratulations! Your kids cakes look adorable -we loved the lamp post as we LOVE Narnia too!
Diane, you have to try this new bread… I made it on Sunday and the family LOVED it and Randy has been taking it as sandwich bread all week. Sooo good! Don’t let the jalapeno’s fool you… it is not hot, just delicious! I made the 2 loaf but you will want to do the large one and I added an egg and also let it rise in the Bosch for an hour and then punched it down and formed the loaves.
