Even with my bad back, I’ve still been able to supervise the Christmas decorating from the couch! In all honesty, every year I only give my two cents worth, while John handles the decorations. Before John and I started dating, his mom used to tell him, “John, I feel sorry for your wife, because she is going to want to decorate and you are not going to let her.” Well, it all worked out because although I like to decorate and have lots of opinions about how things should look, I don’t exactly like to do it.
See? A match made in heaven!
Here are our three trees:
This is our living room tree, and is full of both family ornaments and the glass ornaments that John loves, loves, loves.
Here is the family room tree, which is done in red and white. (Notice the full basket of library books – we have a matching one that is just as full on the other side of the fireplace! The library people almost dread seeing us all walk in the door.)
Here is the foyer tree. We are lucky to have a two story foyer that can accommodate this large tree that I found at a yard sale for $10.00.
Finally, here is my favorite picture from this year. No, you are not seeing the picture sideways, but rather seeing the ornament exactly as my sweet four-year-old hung it up. Sideways – like all birds fly. (Just ignore the ugly tablecloth under the tree, it was there while we decorated to catch any ornaments that fell. This year we only broke two – whoops.)
As much as I appreciate Christmas decorations, I’m glad that it only comes once a year. Not only because the decorations take a long time to arrange, but also because of the intense focus on food, food, and more food. I have to remind myself that two little words make a huge difference this time of year. “No thanks.”
Thank you for letting me share a little bit of our Christmas cheer. By the way, it’s December 9th and I haven’t wrapped or mailed the first present. Oh well, there is always tomorrow!
How are your holiday preparations coming? Diane

Such lovely trees you have in your home. You’re the first one I came upon, which have more than 1 tree in your house but I like the idea of having more than one tree. I would love to have one in my room
My tree is also up in our living room.
blackhuff´s last fabulous musings ..We’re off!
The more than one tree thing kept happening as I found a tree second-hand. I’d drag it home, and John would say, “Do we really need another tree.” I’d say, “No.” But up it would go!
my youngest was in looking at your tree pictures and loving them.
crazy end of the year here, middle put up two trees in the living room with white lights and no ornaments. if they stay up all through the winter, that is fine with me, we love the lights. Looking a the ornaments, I would just have thought – one more thing that needs (un)done. just the lights is good for this year.
vickie´s last fabulous musings ..christmas decorations this year
I wouldn’t mind just simple lights on a tree either. I am fortunate that John and the kids will pack all the ornaments/trees away while mildly complain about how it is all too much.
I’m single. I live alone. Holiday time requires no preparation by me, because there is no tradition, nobody to impress, and nothing to do on Christmas day but workout and watch football. Sounds stress-free, huh…? It is. Would much rather have the stress, and someone to share it with….
Roy that makes me sad for you. The stress of the holidays comes in many forms. Take care of yourself.
Just beautiful! We are just getting our one tree up today, and these photos put me right in the mood.
Thanks! I hope your tree trimming went smoothly.
I meant to comment on Wednesday…I’m so sorry to hear about your back!!
Your trees are beautiful and, yes, you and John are a perfect match. We’re matched the other way and I’m just grateful my husband helps set up the tree and do lights..from there on out it’s up to me and the kids.
Christmas preparations are coming along fine over here.

Thanks for your encouragement on my back. It is slowly improving. I hope you are putting some pics up on your blog!
Beautiful! I will keep my eye out come January for another Christmas tree so I can be like you and have more than one, very cool. My kids love to decorate and I let them because if I were to do it they would just move everything around anyway.

Yes – you definitely need more than one tree. Your kids would love it.
Gorgeous! I love decorating the house … Mac helps with whatever I ask him (he’s a keeper for sure). We currently only have one tree, but when we move back to the states (next Christmas) I’ll add another.

He does sound like a keeper. John also irons as I claim I am just terrible at it. Shhhh. . . .
Hi Diane. LOVE the trees, and the angle of the bird ornament!!!! I LOVE Christmas decorations. This year, our tree will have only unbreakables on there because we have a very spirited cat. All part of the fun of the season. Best wishes on continued recovery!!!
Roz@weightingfor50´s last fabulous musings ..Lunchtime field trip!
Thank you Roz! One time our cat got up into the lower branches, and tip went the tree. Broke some ornaments but not too many as it was on a carpeted floor. Then we secured the tree to the window frame with a wire just in case.
Diane – BEAUTIFUL pics!!!!!!!!! I love how you decorated!!! Yes, food seems to be the focus at holidays & we need to try to focus more on friends & family & the sights & sounds…. I agree, I have learned the No thanks too & anything else I need to say to make sure people don’t push it on me.. although everyone I know knows me!
Just small here.. all the grandkids are not in CA, ;-(, so… we still will enjoy!

It really is easy for the holiday to be about food, but those two words can keep everything in check!
Not a stitch of decorating yet! Maybe we’ll finally get the tree up when my boys come home next week:)
Karen@WaistingTime´s last fabulous musings ..Spa-tacular
What’s the rush – right? We sometimes get it all up the week after Thanksgiving, and other years (like this one) we are a bit later. I hope your boys enjoy the holidays at home.
Your trees are gorgeous!
Well, I started strong and it’s slowing down. Got the tree up. I’m trying to put up a lot of lights around the house, mantle, etc. Something magical about the lights!
Hopefully I’ll have it done by the time my oldest is home from college. I didn’t put up the big village this year, and probably won’t.
Thank you Julie. I like the lights too – they make everything so festive. My hubby hadn’t done the village when I wrote this post. He was working on it last night. He puts it under the main tree.
Your trees look so lovely.
It sort of makes me wish I was going to have a tree this year.
Maren´s last fabulous musings ..NSV: The junk food owns me no more!
Thank you Maren – trees are fun to look at, but they are a lot of work.
Love the Christmas trees! I don’t mind putting up the Christmas decorations but I absolutely hate taking them down and putting them away. At least putting them up you have to look forward to Christmas but putting them away means nothing to look forward to except three months of cold and snow!
I got all my Christmas shopping finished today but still need to wrap them all and also need to send out Christmas cards. Seems like the to-do list never ends.
Tiffany´s last fabulous musings ..30 Day Weight Loss Challenge – Weight In #2
Me too! I hate thinking about the cold weather, and although we don’t get a lot of snow, I hate thinking about that too. My to-do list is so long too – just one thing at a time. Right?
I think it is time for me to select a Christmas tree for my apartment. I will post a photo on my blog if anyone is interested.
I hope that you do put up a picture. Glad you are going to put up a tree.
Wow… just wow!! So beautiful. Makes me miss my Mom. She always had a tree when we were growing up, and did up the house. Even if it was homemade, she made it with love.
I LOVED seeing the beauty you created. Don’t know why, but it’s almost moving me to tears… guess it’s making me feel nostalgic.
Thank you for sharing this, it feels magical.

Aww – sorry you are missing your mom this time of year. That must be very difficult. Thinking of you.
That’s lovely, Diane!
I like when the decorations are up, and if I had my way, I’d leave them up until March
You could leave them up until March I suppose. As long as they were artificial trees right?
Absolutely beautiful trees!!! You are blessed Diane, but I know you know that already.

I do know Sheri, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded of that fact regularly. Thanks!
Since I’m away at school, I made sure to get our house decorated Thanksgiving night! When I left to come back to school, the house was beautiful inside and out. Unfortunately, I found out some neighborhood hooligans vanadlized some of our outdoor decorations last night!
At school, I get in the spirit by decorating my door and encouraging my residents to do the same! I have my little Charlie Brown Christmas tree up, and my bed covered in Christmas blankets and pillows

Oh, you have such classic decorating. It’s beautiful, just like a magazine.
I’m on a special list of people who have taken out more than 500 books in a year from the library. Obviously, the kids, when smaller, were driving me crazy because I read read read and everyone thought I was the nicest mom ever!
Hope the back improves quickly!

Pretty pretty pretty! I think we will keep our household to one tree until the babes grow up. Ours is currently elevated so that little fingers can’t grab the expensive ornaments! I like how you and your man compliment each other so well!
