Saying Hello to a New Year

It is almost New Year’s Eve. Regardless of whether you set resolutions or not, you are going to have a chance to say hello to a New Year in just a few short hours.

You’ve probably heard that phrase: New Year New You from some commercial or ad. Although it’s a bit cheesy, it does have a ring of truth.

A year is a long time, and you may be surprised what you can accomplish in one year.

For example, it took me 14 months to lose 158 pounds. I know that is relatively fast, but I did it in a healthy, determined way. I couldn’t move without hurting one year, and the next year, I was not only able to move around easily, but I also increased my fitness level dramatically.

I went from getting stuck on the carousel at Disney World and looking like this:

To gracefully (relatively speaking) getting off and on the very same carousel just a short time later.

When you think about the years passing by, I wanted to encourage you that 366 (2012 is a leap year) days is plenty of time to reach or get closer to your goals.

Say hello to a new year with anticipation and excitement over what you can accomplish!! Got plans to be a new you?  Diane

Thank you so much for reminding me that a year is a long time. I get discouraged with how much I’ve got to go, but then see these pics and it helps me stay motivated. Happy New Year Diane.

  2. I love the contrast on the carousel! That is awesome! I’m SO looking forward to this new year. 2011 was lousy and a wash for me. Disney World is one of my favorite places with the kids. I want to go from where I was (walking around Disney with sore feet by the end of the day…) to eventually running the Disney World marathon (in which case I’ll still have sore feet by the end of the day but it’ll be different…LOL)Maybe not all in one year, but I can accomplish much, that I know!

I found your site through a friend, and love this message. When I really think about it – this next year can be totally different for me in how I look and how I eat. Small healthy changes are my goals.

  4. Yes, 366 days are a lot of time to make a lot of changes and good choices, one little choice at a time. Great reminder!

Wishing you a healthy and happy 2012!

This post is a good reminder of your remarkable accomplishment Diane. This is a time when I just say Happy New Year. I try not to think much about the coming year and I encourage people to do (or not do) the same. Change takes place daily. My body, nor anyone else’s doesn’t know how many days are in a year, or when the year begins. Our bodies only know excess or restraint — on a daily basis.

    Happy New Year Diane!

Just last night I was thinking, “It’s almost new years…52 weeks. [pause] If I lose one pound a week I will be at goal by this time next year. That doesn’t sound so hard. ”

Here’s to a new year and finishing up what I’ve started, Diane. Have a great weekend!

  10. I love the idea of a year being a long time to work on me. It’s easy to say it’s so short because it seems to pass by so fast but this year I’m making regular efforts to work on me instead of blaming busy days.

A year can go by pretty fast, but for some of us, we view it as a long time for a weight loss process. I often get discouraged when I think of the time it will take for me to be at goal, and I think it can be a roadblock to progress. You have helped put things into perspective. Thanks for that!

  12. Diane, just this morning I read a post from a woman who pretty much decided that permanent weight loss would never occur for her. She cited issues this her parents, genetics, etc…as viable reasons why she would always weigh over 250 lbs. My first thought was that I’ll bet she hasn’t discovered your blog. You are such a positive role model and proof that it can be done. I know you’ve given hope to so many people and there are 100′s you’ll be inspiring in 2012. Happy new year!

  13. Its a fresh start. The time is going to pass and we can be in the same place a year from now or we can make small changes and improve our health and our lives. I plan on continuing to make improvements!

Happy new year to you and your family Diane.

Could you be any more encouraging? Probably not! ;) Sometimes the end result seems so far off, but you are right…it doesn’t have to be! My only catch will be breast feeding (if history repeats itself I will CLING to fat until baby gets on solids) but I still should be able to lose a pound a week!

I know you were unhappy with your weight and mobility in those old photos, but honestly, the first thing I thought when I came to your site and saw your old “before” photos was, “Wow, she’s always been pretty, hasn’t she?” There’s a lot of be said for being able to get up off the floor after bending over, though. :-)

  18. Your posts are always so inspiring. Your determination and perseverance to accomplish your huge, daunting goal gives me hope to accomplish my smaller ones.

  19. You are amazing Diane & yes, so true how much we can accomplish if we give it the time. People tend to want everything right now these days & when it comes to our health, even faster. It can be done with time & patience!

Yes, I have plans for 2012… no stress just plans & if I get closer but not all the way – that is fine too!
